What We're Reading

For 0-10 year olds

This is one of our favorite
family story books of all time. It explains how mama has unconditional love for her dear one.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one. (grade 3 and up)

The LIttle Kid

Bad Kitty is hilarious as he works his way through an alphabet of naughtiness.

Places to Snowshoe and Cross Country Ski in Litchfield County, CT

Things to do with kids: Places to Snowshoe and Cross Country Ski in Litchfield County, CT

Snowshoeing and cross country skiing are wonderful ways to get out into a snowy landscape while enjoying nature with the kids. Both of these activities allow you to see areas that otherwise you wouldn't be exposed to. It's a great form of exercise and creates a sense of adventure. In Litchfield County there are many beautiful areas to snowshoe and cross country ski. Make sure to bring water and a snack and to always stay on the trail. Wearing layers is a good idea too, since you can work up quite a sweat once you get going.

Our Visit to The Christmas House in Torrington, Connecticut

Our Visit to The Christmas House in Torrington, Connecticut

As I drove through Torrington one day last week I vaguely remembered someone once telling me that there is a house in Torrington that goes "over the top" with Christmas decorations. I told my son that we should come back and try to find it one evening when, not five seconds later, we happened to drive by something that left our jaws dropped while in visual disbelief. Mind you, this was at 3:00 in the afternoon. The lights hadn't even been turned on yet. It was a quick drive-by and we couldn't slow down enough to get a really good look but there was no doubt that we were going to return as soon as possible to see this place in its glory. Covered in tinsel like you can't imagine, every square inch of lawn and house is covered with a light, candy cane or Santa figure. Some moving and some not. We returned with friends one chilly evening to find the house alit in all its fine splendor. You will find beauty here in the spirit of the effort that goes into creating such a spectacle, however, be warned, it IS completely over the top.

‪A Daytrip to the Regina Laudis Abbey‬ Creche in Bethlehem, CT

Things to do with kids: ‪A Daytrip to the Regina Laudis Abbey‬ Creche in Bethlehem, CT

The children and I spent a couple of hours over in Bethlehem to see the creche on display at the Regina Laudis Abbey. We arrived at the Abbey and parked by the shop at the top of the drive. We found home-made cheeses and local honey while admiring the pottery, art and especially the carved stone basins. My boys have never seen a gift shop that they don't like and this one was no exception.
