Memorial Day Weekend Parades and Events with Kids in Connecticut

After this long, harsh, Connecticut winter, what a relief to glimpse the calendar and see Memorial Day, the unofficial kickoff of summer, finally right around the corner!  While you might feel like it crept up on you, and you're wondering what to do with the kiddos over the three day holiday, never fear!  We here at Mommy Poppins have the state covered and have a round up of all the best parades, events, festivals and family fun for Memorial Day 2014!

First on most to-do lists is taking in a good Memorial Day parade, and there are no shortage over the holiday weekend.  On Sunday, Ledyard, Rowayton, and Monroe, all honor fallen heroes with their parades.  Monday is the big parade day, and you can pick from East Lyme/Niantic,  Darien, and Wilton.  Be sure to check our calendar for the full round up of parades and step off times.

Lime Rock Park - Motorsports and Memorial Day weekend...can't get much more exciting than that!  Take the family to New England's home of car racing for their annual Memorial Day tradition, and the track's first major professional race of the season.  The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge runs Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday, the track hosts the Sunday Royals Car Show, featuring more than 200 rare sports cars and contemporary muscle cars.  View the events from the grandstands or bring your RV trackside.  Ticket prices vary and are subject to availability.  60 White Hollow Road, Lakeville, CT 06039 1.800.RACE.LRP

Mystic Seaport Lobster Days - Crack your first claw of the season in the open, sea air, amidst the history of Mystic Seaport.  All Memorial Day weekend long, the Mystic Rotary Club will serve up fresh lobster-in-the-rough with proceeds benefiting the Rotarian's various community projects and organizations.  Tickets are required and include a lobster dinner and admission.  75 Greenmanville Avenue, Mystic, CT 06355 860.572.0711

Robin Hood Springtime Festival - From the folks behind the Connecticut Renaissance Faire, The Robin Hood Springtime Festival takes over the Guilford Fairgrounds with food, drink, shopping, entertainment for all ages, and a vibe that makes you harken thyself back to a different age!  Memorial Day is Hero Appreciation Day, and active military, police, fire personnel, members of the armed forces, and their families are admitted for a reduced admission.  111 Lovers Lane, Guilford, CT 

Riverfront Summer Pops - Take in the sounds of the Middletown Symphonic Band at the 350 seat Great River Park Ampitheatre in East Hartford to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend.  Show begins at 7pm, Saturday May 24, and is free!  301 East River Drive, East Hartford, CT 

Frozen Sing-A-Long at the Garde Arts Center - Join Elsa, Anna, and the rest of the amazing cast of characters from Frozen, on Sunday May 18th, on the big screen for a holiday weekend sing along!  Don't know the words to the songs (how can you not...)?  Just follow the bouncing snowflake, of course!  325 State Street New London, CT
