If you’re living in the central Connecticut area then Massachusetts is a great place to visit for a day trip. Being our neighboring state it’s only a quick car ride away and offers plenty of fun locations to check out with your family. Filled with an array of historic sites and entertaining tourist attractions you will have no trouble finding a choice for your one day getaway.

Boston is only about a two hour drive from Hartford County and has spots like the New England Aquarium or the huge Children’s Museum. Another fun place to visit is Quincy Market where you can spend the day eating, shopping or resting outside enjoying the shows put on by the various street performers. During the summer Faneuil Hall is busy spot with various performers and their concert series event! While in Boston make sure you are in the know about all of the best events happening in the area by checking out the calendar on our sister site Mommy Poppins Boston.

As a child I remember visiting Old Sturbridge Village with my family and also on a school field trip. I still have memories of exploring and learning about what is was like living in that era. It’s a great place to visit with your family and inspire your child to become immersed in their country's historical background.

A fun adventurous day trip perfect for a child between the ages of 3-10 would be the Pirate Adventures in Cape Cod. It's an amazing interactive treasure hunting voyage into Hyannis Harbor and Bass River Marina in Dennis for your little pirate enthusiast. You and your family can board the Sea Gypsy and pretend to be a part of the crew!

A must see on our spring to-do list is to visit Magic Wings, a Butterfly Conservatory and Garden in South Deerfield. We have heard so much about this amazing museum! It is an 8,000 sq. ft. glass conservatory filled with butterflies, moths and tropical vegetation where the butterflies flutter freely with even a chance of them landing on your shoulder. The facility has a food court and also a casual to upscale dining restaurant onsite for visitors.

My daughter and I can’t wait to check it all out this spring!
