11 Wonderful Wildlife Hikes for Kids in Los Angeles

Submitted by Jean Kuo Lee on Mon, 03/22/2021 - 9:03am

Los Angeles is a busy, bustling, metropolis filled with museums, cultural events, and fabulous restaurants. But even as all these favorite spots reopen, and the pace of life picks up again, sometimes families need to get in touch with nature, whether it’s playing at the park, taking a family hike, or a toddler or stroller-friendly walk in the forest. Whatever age or stage the kids are at, getting out there and connecting with nature is so rejuvenating.

Thankfully, Los Angeles is full of places to get a dose of nature therapy, take a break from the screens, and slow down our rhythms to observe some wildlife. The following places are all amazing for birdwatching (one of the easiest ways for kids to get into wildlife in Los Angeles) as well as spotting other furry and scaly critters.

Fair Foodie Fest Drive-thru at the Rose Bowl: County Fair Foods From the Safety of Your Car

Submitted by Jean Kuo Lee on Tue, 02/09/2021 - 10:31am

While many things are opening up in LA, a visit to a crowded fair or festival isn't happening any time soon. (In fact, just this week it was announced that the LA County Fair is cancelled for the second year in a row!) However, if one of the things your family misses about a county fair is the food, we've got a solution. At Fair Foodie Fest you can get that triple-fried carnival food without ever leaving the safety of your car.

Missing the giant turkey legs you get at Disneyland? Feeling a little nostalgia for a funnel cake that's larger than a small child? Chomp right into your favorites at the Fair Foodie Fest at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, weekends throughout February. Read on for the scoop on how this food fest from the car works, what's on the menu, and if the food and experience are worth the drive.

Dine-in service at indoor restaurants may have been re-shuttered, but Mayor Garcetti is encouraging restaurants to open up outdoor seating in parking lots, sidewalks, and closed streets—helping communities to dine and local businesses to stay afloat. After months of cooking at home or eating take-out, it will be really nice to go out for a bona-fide, fully serviced meal in a restaurant at one of LA's newly created outdoor dining experiences. Families worldwide have not had a normal summer (though we hope we’ve been able to help with some outings and activities), so we’ve scouted out the best, most creative outdoor dining around LA this season.

How To Enjoy the Norton Simon Museum with Kids

Submitted by Jean Kuo Lee on Tue, 03/10/2020 - 9:55pm

The consensus is in: most parents don’t relish the idea of taking their young children to art museums. Whereas a trip to Kidspace Museum could easily make for a pleasant full-day excursion with little ones, a visit to a gallery like the Norton Simon Museum is a gamble. It could go swimmingly well for the day, or it could end in a meltdown minutes after paying for admission. Recently we took a trip to the Norton Simon Museum and thankfully enjoyed the experience. The kids loved it so much, in fact, they were begging to go back again. Read on to discover how we managed to make it fun, educational, and memorable enough for repeat visits.
