In New York on New Year's Day we try to get out of the house with an activity that parents can enjoy as much as the kids. Lots of things are closed, but there's still lots of fun stuff to do. Here are some ideas of what to do with kids in New York on New Year's Day 2009.

Dan Zanes at the New Victory Theater. Celebrate multicultural-ly with Dan Zanes' Holiday House Party a raucous ringing in of the New Year picking up rhythyms and traditions from lots of different cultures.

Polar Bear Club in Coney Island. For a funky way to spend New Year's Day, go watch some stolid creatures take a dip in the freezing ocean.

Ice Skating Rinks. Ice skating is a great way to spend the first day of the year and the ice skating rinks will all be open, including the new Polar Rink at the Museum of Natural History.
