What We're Reading

For 0-10 year olds

This is one of our favorite
family story books of all time. It explains how mama has unconditional love for her dear one.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one. (grade 3 and up)

The LIttle Kid

Bad Kitty is hilarious as he works his way through an alphabet of naughtiness.

Post Hurricane Sandy Outings that are Open and Running in Fairfield County, CT

Things to do with kids: Post Hurricane Sandy Outings that are Open and Running in Fairfield County, CT

Oh, Sandy...what a week!  Much of Fairfield County is struggling with no power, limited resources and road access, and perhaps, most difficult of all, NO SCHOOL!!!!  With 5 days of no school down, and most likely several more to follow, my kids - and I - are starting to climb the walls.

Now that we can safely leave our immediate neighborhood, we'll be hitting some of our favorite spots.  Below I've listed some parks, playgrounds and museums that are open, as well as some that have closed until they are restored to full operations. Our hearts go out to those who have lost more than power and a few trees in this storm. Life goes on and we hope that this list can provide a semblance of normalcy for those who are in desperate need of it.

A Show of Support - A Fire Safety Awareness Event in Fairfield County, Connecticut

Things to do with kids: A Show of Support - A Fire Safety Awareness Event in Fairfield County, Connecticut

After the recent tragic house fire in Stamford that left 3 beautiful girls and their grandparents dead, CT-moms has decided to host a Show of Support, a county-wide fire safety awareness and fundraising event, that will take place on Saturday, February 25th at 10am. The informal, family-friendly one hour event is open to the public and will simultaneously occur at participating fire stations between Stratford and Greenwich. It's designed to allow local residents to show, through attendance and improved fire safety education, their solidarity with families like the Badgers who have suffered fire-related tragedies as well as their support for their local fire stations.  It’s important to clear up any confusion about fire safety in our homes and with our families.

Worst Power Outages in Connecticut: Sledding to the Rescue!

Things to do with kids: Worst Power Outages in Connecticut: Sledding to the Rescue!

Many of you have heard about the snow storm that ravaged CT Halloween Weekend. Many events have been canceled and rescheduled. As of this writing 675,000 homes are still without power, including my home. At times we've enjoyed the quiet and solace that power outages force upon you as well as having to cuddle together for warmth. However, today when we found out that school was closed yet again we ditched the cold, snow and electric free country life and drove into the city; hence how I am able to publish this post. Electricity is good. Very good. And we miss it. Badly. Please have patience with us here at MP CT as we get back on track. Things are destined to be wacky for the next few days. And if you are suffering too, we hope you are making the most of this imposed down time and are able to spend quality time with friends and family. Instead of trick or treating this year my children went sledding with friends. What else can you do but make the most of it?! Stay safe out there!
