Who could have ever imagined that Halloween in CT could be postponed or even canceled for a second year in a row due to weather?! We've just gotten back on line ourselves in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and want to extend our deepest wishes for peace and love to all of those who are affected by this recent tragic storm. That being said, many children are still hoping to get out and celebrate Halloween. The information on town openings is still uncertain in some areas. If your town was heavily damaged, most likely Halloween will be postponed or canceled. Please don't take the children out in areas where trees and electrical wires are down. Call your local police department for the update on whether your town has been deemed safe or not. If not, maybe you can get a group of neighbors together and celebrate in someone's home instead. All of that being said, here is a listing of some Halloween events that are still going on around the state. Have a safe and fun Halloween everyone! You deserve it!

Hopefully Frankenstorm Sandy passes through without a re-enactment of last year’s Halloween power outages and trick-or-treating cancelations. There are so many fun Halloween festivities going on that we have our fingers crossed the weather doesn’t interrupt our plans this holiday. If you haven’t checked out any of the local Haunted Houses be sure to celebrate this year with one of these kid-friendly Halloween events in Hartford County.

The Family Wellness Center in New Britain is having a Halloween costume party Wednesday, October 31 from 10 am-12 pm. There will be Halloween themed games, activities and treats.

Saturday October 27, Blue Back Square in West Hartford will be hosting a Pumpkin Carnival & Halloween Stroll. Head over to the Whole Foods from 9:30-10:30 am for live music, giveaways, photo ops, games, and meet costumed characters. Then from 10:30-11:30 there will be a parade through Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center with trick-or-treating at participating merchants, opportunity to climb aboard a fire truck and more!

Even as a child, I wasn’t one for trick or treating.  Too much grabbing, rushing, running, and general chaos for my taste.  And while I do take my kids trick-or-treating these days, I much prefer many of the pre-Halloween festivities that abound in the area.  And I think my kids may as well…though they’d never admit it!
