What We're Reading

For 0-10 year olds

This is one of our favorite
family story books of all time. It explains how mama has unconditional love for her dear one.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one. (grade 3 and up)

The LIttle Kid

Bad Kitty is hilarious as he works his way through an alphabet of naughtiness.

Spring is finally here! The temperatures are slowly rising, I can hear a chorus of birds chirping and all the beautiful flowers are blooming. After a long cold winter that seemed like it would never end we are all happily ready to welcome this spring season. There’s no better way to greet the season than with a fun springtime festival so here are a few listed to get you started.

10 Best Things To Do This Spring in Eastern Connecticut

Things to do with kids: 10 Best Things To Do This Spring in Eastern Connecticut

For some, when the crocuses sprout from the ground, that's a sure indicator that spring is on its way. For us here in Eastern Connecticut, we don't necessarily pay attention to the calendar to decide if the season has changed.  We have our own barometers and signs that the warmer weather is just around the corner!  Check out some of these spring time seasonal rites of passage.

Our Visit to the Renaissance Faire in Hebron, CT

Things to do with kids: Our Visit to the Renaissance Faire in Hebron, CT

“Good day my lady”, the man fully clad in 16th century attire spoke in his thick British brogue. Surrounded by knights, Lords, horse-riding jousters and even King Arthur himself I thought I had stepped back in time to the Renaissance. Attend King Arthur’s Fall Harvest Festival and you will also get to experience what it was like to be a part of that era. This past Sunday I attended the opening weekend at the Hebron Lions Fairgrounds where the faire runs now until October 28. In its 14th season the festival is Connecticut’s largest Renaissance Faire.

Fall Festivals and Fairs in CT (Fairfield County)

Things to do with kids: Fall Festivals and Fairs in CT (Fairfield County)

This time of year we have the envy of all our friends, family and acquaintances living in California, Florida, Texas and Hawaii. Granted, they get these crisp temps in Northern California, but they don't have sugar maples crowning their day-to-day lives with explosions of color.  No.  October is when all those folks wish they were HERE, clutching that steaming cider and cracking up as the kids trip through the pumpkin patches.  Aside from all the fantastic farms and corn mazes you can visit, there are several fall festivals popping up all month long, all over Fairfield County.

Fall Fairs and Festivals in Connecticut (Hartford County)

Things to do with kids: Fall Fairs and Festivals in Connecticut (Hartford County)

One of the best things about the fall season is the start of all the fairs and festivals. Connecticut offers some of the best fairs in New England that are filled with family fun and activities. Nothing is better than fried dough, midway games, kettle corn, the sweet stickiness of caramel apples, rides, and apple cider. The cooler weather of the autumn season combined with Hartford Counties choice of fairs are a perfect reason to enjoy the outdoors.
