What We're Reading

For 0-10 year olds

This is one of our favorite
family story books of all time. It explains how mama has unconditional love for her dear one.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one. (grade 3 and up)

Bad Kitty is hilarious as he works his way through an alphabet of naughtiness.

Things To Do With Kids in CT This Weekend January 5-6: Lighthouses, Camels and Polar Bear Run

Things to do with kids: Things To Do With Kids in CT This Weekend January 5-6: Lighthouses, Camels and Polar Bear Run

The new year is upon us and many Resolutions are being made.   I've read many blogs in the weeks since the tragedy in Newtown of individuals and families inspired to perform 26 Random Acts of Kindness.  A few days ago I read a post that intrigued and inspired me.  The author suggested taking the new year as an opportunity to encourage children to find ways to be kind to others.  So this year in my family, in addition to making a New Year's Resolution, we are going to find ways to perform random acts of kindness to others throughout the year.  I believe that this will not only benefit others, but will help to instill thoughtfulness, kindness and concern for others as part of my children's everyday thoughts. Doing something worthwhile for those in Newtown is one great way to get started.

New Year's Eve Ice Skating (Fairfield County)

Things to do with kids: New Year's Eve Ice Skating (Fairfield County)

There was probably a time when you got your groove on for New Year's Eve at some hip nightclub.  But with kids on the scene, the closest you may come to getting your groove on before the ball drops, is at the local ice rink.  Several across Fairfield county will be open for public skating New Year's Eve -- even an outdoor one.  It's the perfect way to wear everyone out so you and your better half can rage in the living room 'til 2013 ... or at least reminisce about the rage you once had!

Family Friendly New Year's Eve Fun in Central CT

Things to do with kids: Family Friendly New Year's Eve Fun in Central CT

Another year flew by and we’re already here again planning our New Year's Eve festivities. While many think of the holiday as adults-only, New Years Eve can be turned into a kid friendly celebration when you attend one of these family geared events. Counting down to midnight all together isn't an option for those of us with young children so celebrate during the day and early evening instead.

New Year's Day Activities for Kids (Fairfield County)

Things to do with kids: New Year's Day Activities for Kids (Fairfield County)

Growing up, New Year's Day equated to the Rose Bowl parade and football on the tube, and the scent of pork roast and sauerkraut wafting from the kitchen.  Since my kids don't much care for any of the above, (minus the parade, which is never a guarantee on 1/1 anymore), we're gonna need a plan!  If you're gonna be staring down some squirrelly kids over your scrambled eggs, too, we've got some ideas for how to spend the day.
