What We're Reading

For 0-10 year olds

This is one of our favorite
family story books of all time. It explains how mama has unconditional love for her dear one.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one. (grade 3 and up)

The LIttle Kid

Bad Kitty is hilarious as he works his way through an alphabet of naughtiness.

Things to do with kids: Mostly Free and Fun Things To Do With Kids This Weekend May 18-19: Farms, Festivals, Wheel Fun Day and Outdoor Art

One of the things I love about living in Connecticut is that I can be in downtown Hartford in ten minutes, and If I drive ten minutes in the other direction, I can be on a rural, working farm that feels like I'm far away from any hustle and bustle.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, CT has nearly 5,000 farms. They are wonderful places to show your children where our food comes from, and why local agriculture is crucial to the environment and the economy. If you would like to get out and see for yourself, check out our post on Where to See Baby Farm Animals in Fairfield County.

Things to do with kids: Mostly Free and Fun Things to do with Kids in CT This Weekend May 11-12: Fairy Gardens, Arts Festivals and Mother's Day Events

This is the eighth year that I am celebrating Mother's Day as a mother in addition to celebrating it as a daughter.  Raising my two children these past eight years has brought me joy, pride and yes, sometimes frustration, and has changed me as a person forever. I've also grown to understand and appreciate my own mother in ways that I never could have before having children of my own.

Free Events and Activities in Fairfield County, CT

Things to do with kids: Free Events and Activities in Fairfield County, CT

Hmm.  April has come and gone, and with it, my tax check to Uncle Sam and his friend, the Connecticut State Treasurer.  Ouch. This year, I figured I’d look around and see where all those taxes are going.  Low and behold, I’ve found several low cost – and even FREE! – family friendly opportunities here in southern CT, some of which are made possible in part by that painful April check writing.  Thanks, Uncle Sam!

Things to do with kids: 10 Things to Do with Your Kids This Spring in Litchfield County, Connecticut

[UPDATED 3/30/13]

It's almost Spring as we can see by the forsythia buds and daffodil's starting to peep. Litchfield County is known for its natural rural beauty and these coming weeks will bring on a beautiful show. This time of year I love to prune a few forsythia branches and bring them inside to enjoy the blooms up close. With the warmer weather it's a great time to get out and do some nature inspired activities with the kids. Here's a list of 10 things to do in Litchfield County this Spring.

Library Story Times in Hartford County for Babies thru age Five

Things to do with kids: Library Story Times in Hartford County for Babies thru age Five

Starting to read to your children at an early age is a great way to ignite a love for books. Ever since I was a young girl I have always enjoyed reading. Fortunately, I have passed on that quality to my own daughter. I believe reading her a bedtime story every night since she was born and all of those visits to our local library's morning story hours have really made a difference. Now she will sit entertaining herself in her room with a pile of books for hours. Although she is not old enough to understand what the words say, she looks through the pages, analyzes the pictures, and makes up her very own story. Here is compilation of fun story times in the Hartford County area.
