Bloomingdale School of Music

Bloomingdale School of Music, serving the UWS since 1964, offers a variety of music classes for students of all ages in its newly renovated and air-conditioned brownstone. Bloomingdale classes aim to educate students and instill a sense of passion and fun for self-expression through music. During the summer semester, Bloomingdale offers several weeklong workshops for students of various ages and skill levels. All workshops are led by their expert-vetted faculty of professional teaching artists.

Ages 4-6 Meet the Instruments Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This week-long program is designed for children aged 4-6 to allow them to explore the fascinating world of musical instruments. They experience meeting instruments from the strings, woodwinds, and percussion families with a chance to try playing each instrument with esteemed faculty.

Ages 6-9 Summer Troubadours Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM This week-long program is designed for children entering 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade to help them learn which instrument they are most excited to study. Children experience the violin, piano, wind instruments and more in daily sessions led by faculty artists specializing in each instrument. These young musicians also experience theater games, instrument making, percussion classes and a final showcase.

Ages 8-18 Weeklong Instrument Intensives Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Available for Strings and Piano, each intensive is an immersive program offering students the opportunity to participate in a collaborative and performance-focused learning experience. This one-week intensive is led by Bloomingdale’s faculty, with appearances by special guests.

Ages 10-18 2 Week Summer Guitar Intensive Monday - Friday | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Immerse yourself in the world of guitar with the Bloomingdale Guitar Intensive, a transformative two-week program taking place in July. This comprehensive experience offers a dynamic blend of masterclasses, interactive workshops, ensemble playing and captivating student and faculty performances.
