New London County Arts and Drama Summer Camps

The last time I checked the calendar, it read October. Today, it tells me spring lurks around the corner and just over three months stand between me and the end of school! After recovering from that sobering realization, my thoughts turned towards warmer weather, vacations, and those inevitable moans and groans of summertime boredom. In my house, idle kids mean an unhappy Mom, so summer day camps abound! Luckily, here in New London county, our neck of the woods boasts plenty of opportunities for our creative kiddos.

Thames Valley Music School Arts Camp - A State of Connecticut certified youth camp, Thames Valley Music School Arts Camp allows campers the chance to explore various forms of music, musical theatre, dance, circus arts and more. Spanning two weeks of full-day programming on the campus of Connecticut College in New London, campers stage a full camp art show and performances each Friday afternoon while camp is in session. Weekly tuition runs about $300 per child. Scholarships are available for New London residents.

Florence Griswold Museum Art Colony Camps - Art and history merge at the Florence Griswold Museum art colony camps! Kids learn the significance of the Lyme Art Colony, while sketching and painting with the beautiful museum and equally inspiring gardens as a backdrop. Campers get snacks, a t-shirt, and an artful experience they'll never forget. Each session costs $200 with a slight discount for museum members.

Summer on Stage at the Garde Arts Center - Your kid can be a star! In cooperation with the Missoula Children's theatre, your child dabbles in all aspects of show production, from acting to stage makeup, and camp culminates each week with public performances incorporating campers in roles both on-stage and behind the scenes. Kids may participate in any combination of the three week long program. Individual week tuition is $275 with discounts for multiple week enrollment. Scholarships and family/sibling discounts are available.

Lyman Allyn Immersion Art Camps - Your burgeoning little artist will enjoy testing new artistic techniques, exploring the largest collection of fine art in Southeastern CT, and fostering new friendships. During each 4-day themed session, campers spend time working on their own art portfolio and investigating exhibits inside the museum. Non-members tuition is $130 per session and members of Lyman Allyn receive discounted tuition.

Miss Nikki's 5,6,7,8 Dance Summer Camp - Choose between a week of musical theatre camp or Diva Dance Camp or opt in for both! No matter which path to twirls and whirls you choose, Miss Nikki offers a low student/teacher ratio, and the opportunity for your star to shine this summer. Theatre camp runs 7/22-7/26 and Diva Dance camp begins 8/5, ending on 8/9. Both programs top out at a maximum of 10 students, span ages 5-10 and cost $75 for each week.

Mystic Arts Center Summer Camps - Encouraging kids to unleash their visual creativity, campers at MAC learn conventional fundamentals of visual arts in a most unconventional way! Offerings include both full and half-day specialty camps connecting art and graffiti, nature, yoga, music and more taught by local artisans and industry professionals. Tuition ranges from $150-$200 per program and dates vary throughout the summer. Scholarships are available.
