Best Museum Birthday Parties for Kids in Fairfield County, CT

6/23/15 - By Brandee Gilmore

Nothing sparks my kids' (or my!) curiosity quite like a trip to a museum. Thankfully, Fairfield County, Connecticut is filled with fascinating cultural institutions where my family can learn about science, space, nature and history. But did you know that many of these museums offer fun and enriching children's birthday party packages, too? Here are seven spots where your child can celebrate the big day among dinosaurs, farm animals, trains and even armored tanks!

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Discovery Museum & Planetarium
The options here are as varied as the natural world itself!  Dinosaurs, outer space, land or sea can be the theme for children as young as one, and up through the teen years.  They also offer overnights at the museum!  You get a lot of bang for your buck here, with generous head counts, including a parent for each guest.
4450 Park Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06604, 203-372-3521

Stamford Museum & Nature Center
The most popular option here is the 'Fantastic Farm.'  Your guests will get to feed the animals on a personal tour.  After cake, everyone can stay and enjoy the grounds.  They also offer indoor creature encounters and science-based parties for older children.  You must be a member  (Family $100/year) to host a party here, but the party head counts are generous, so it is worth considering. Parties $350 and up.
39 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford, CT 06903, 203-322-1646

Stepping Stones Museum for Children
You'll have two hours with up to 25 guests, at what is arguably the best children's museum for miles.  $425 and up.
303 West Ave., Norwalk, CT 06850, 203-899-0606

EverWonder Children's Museum
Party here with a guided science or art activity, plus full use of the exhibits.  (FYI ... they require a 1:3 ratio of adults to children, to keep everyone safe and happy).  $249 and up.
31 Peck's Lane, Newtown, CT 06470, 203-364-4009

Military Museum of Southern New England
Your American Hero-to-be can party with friends inside the museum and all through the armored tanks outside!  Each guest receives personalized dog tags, included in the cost ($15 per child -- 10 min; 30 max).  NOTE: the museum will be closed due to water damage until July, 2015).
125 Park Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810,  203-790-9277

Danbury Railway Museum
Choo-choo enthusiasts and their party guests have access to the museum and railyard, in every month but December (due to Santa events). The birthday child also receives a pass to ride in the locomotive cab with a parent -- woo, wooooooooo!  $125 and up.
120 White St, Danbury, CT 06810, 203-778-8337

And finally, because it's so close (and famous), this one gets the New Haven County Honorable Mention:

Yale Peabody Museum
Choose from one of four natural history-based themes including Junior paleontologist and Daily Life in Ancient Egypt.  On top of free reign of the halls, there is a guided craft and shark tooth dig!  Sorry, no parties available in July or August.  $275 and up.
170 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT, 06520, 203-432-5050
