Nature Camps in Connecticut (Hartford County)
When I think about summer camps the first things that come to mind are exploring the wilderness, sitting by the campfire roasting marshmallows, being outside in the sun, and just enjoying nature. So why not help to create the same memories for your own child by sending them to one of Hartford County’s great nature themed camps?
The town of Windsor’s Northwest Park offers a great nature camp program that focuses on science, farm and nature while enjoying the outdoors. Your child will be engaged in hands-on experiences, activities, games, hikes, observations, projects, stories, and experiments. Crafts are also incorporated into the camp experience. Broken up into week-long sessions from June to August, you may register your child for multiple weeks of camp. Camps are based on what grade your child will be entering in the fall.

The New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park in Kensington has a variety of outdoor summer camp programs for ages 3-5 and grades 1-3. Roaring Brook Nature Center has a great summer discovery program that offers your child a unique blend of education and recreation that allows a child to explore the sense of wonder they may feel towards the natural world. The program is for preschoolers through children entering grade 8.

A special Kayaking/canoeing camp is one of the many fun outdoor adventured themed camps offered at Winding Trails. This specific program runs from July 9-13 but there are many others to choose from. With two fun trips down the Farmington River to take advantage of all the skills they learned this camp is geared for kids ages 10-13. South Windsor Recreation offers a camp for 12-15 year olds called the Adventure Unit. It is a weekly summer camp that takes exciting trips including many nature themed spots such as the Hammonasset Nature Center, hiking up Mt.
