Free and Fun Things To Do With Kids this Weekend in Connecticut 4/28-4/29: Thomas the Tank Engine & Daffodil and Sheep Festivals

4/25/12 - By Mary Beth Lawlor

This weekend I am organizing a 14th birthday party for an 8th grade class complete with a teen size bouncy house as well as planning to attend our school auction. It's going to be a busy one and there are so many fun events to add to the mix. Thomas lovers won't want to miss Thomas the Tank Engine during his only visit through CT this year at the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat.

It's the 103rd annual Sheep Wool and Fiber Festival in Tolland. Meet shetland sheep, watch sheep dogs and see sheep shearing first hand Go Touch a Truck at Skinner Road School in Vernon. There will be a bouncy house, bake sale and loads of fun trucks to touch! Enjoy Spring and see the daffodils at the Meriden Daffodil Festival. The CT Audubon Society at Glastonbury is having an Earth Fair about Birds and their habitats. For more Earth Day fun head out to New Britian's Youth Museum on Saturday. You can take the kids to see Alison in Wonderland at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre or Wizard of Oz at the Ridgefield Playhouse. Looking for bargains? You are in luck. There are two big consignment sales in both Ansonia and Manchester on Saturday. Well, that's not all there is to do my dear friend! Check out the calendar which is chock full of more fun events this weekend and beyond.

This week we had some great posts on the site. In Hartford County we listed some of our favorite playgrounds. We also did a review of the Imagine Nation Children's Museum which is best for 2-10 year olds.

In Fairfield County we rounded up some cool museum exhibits that are currently being shown. Springtime festivals abound right now and we have those for you too. CT Moms based in Fairfield County has started a diaper drive and hopes to donate 20,000 diapers during the month of May.

We here at Mommy Poppins CT are super excited to announce our event coming up on June 3rd at the Westfield Connecticut Post shopping mall. The CT Summer Fun Expo is where families can have fun while getting glimpses of great places to visit and things to do in CT over the summer. If you'd like to participate in the event in any way please contact me at ct@mommypoppins.com. We are currently signing up exhibitors (who get a free ad on our site!)

A lot of people lately are telling us what a great resource we are for CT families. That makes us happy! Planning for summer? Our Summer Camp Guide breaks camps down by area and type. Let us know of any good ones you'd like to see added. Our most popular post - 110 Things to Do with Kids in CT Before They Grow Up will be updated this weekend with our readers additions. I wonder what the number will change to! If we are missing something, speak now or forever hold your peace!
