Free and Fun Things to Do with Kids in Connecticut This Weekend: 4/21-4/22 Earth Day, Allison Wonderland and Baby Disco

4/18/12 - By Mary Beth Lawlor

This Sunday is Earth Day. We've written activity and event posts for both Hartford and Fairfield Counties so you can find out ways to celebrate in your area. We plan to make "green lemonade" at school tomorrow with organic produce. We just juice up carrots, apples, lemons and kale. It's delicious and so good for you! And the veggie waste is great to add to the compost pile.

The weather has been wonderful and we hope that you check out our playground recommendations in Fairfield County. Sometimes its fun to change up the routine a bit. Massachussetts is a great destination for a daytrip. This week we did a post about some fun things to do while there.

I'm happy to report that we've hired 2 moms who will be responsible for updating the calendars and writing the weekend roundups. They live in Hartford and Fairfield Counties. This will give me more time to write about Litchfield County and to focus on our Connecticut Summer Fun Expo event. Save the date for June 3rd and come visit us at the Westfield Post mall in Milford. We are currently organizing a terrific event for families where parents can learn about all of the fun things to do in CT this summer as well as enjoy an on-site carnival,  raffle prizes and kids' activities. Stay tuned for more info. If you'd like to be an exhibitor please contact me at ct@mommypoppins.com.

This weekend The Stepping Stones Museum, Maritime Aquarium, town of Woodbury and Mystic Aquarium all have special events for Earth Day. Beardsley Zoo is hosting Party for the Planet. Saturday night is Nature Nights at Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center.

You won't want to miss this opportunity to dance the day away with your baby at Westfield Trumbull mall on Sunday. Baby Loves Disco will be there providing some groovey beats. Learn all about Letter Boxing at the Norwalk Historical Society and set out on your own "stamp" hunt!

We hope you participate in Earth Day in some way this weekend. Whether it be as small as taking your recycling to the dump or doing a local trash clean up along a beach. Even preparing a meal with food that you get at your local farmer's market is one way to celebrate. If we take the time to stress the importance of taking care of our beautiful Earth to our little ones we will all be making this world a better place!
