Drama and Dance Summer Camps for Kids in Connecticut (Fairfield County)

3/5/12 - By Katie McKnight

As there is no shortage of drama in my house (3 girls!), I’ve decided to embrace the theatrics by enrolling them into some drama and dance camps this summer.  Happily I’ve found a number of options for my budding thespians and dancers in the Fairfield County area:

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Crystal Theater, Norwalk, CT
The Crystal Theater offers 1-week camps for three age groups: 4th - 10th grades, 3rd - 7th and K-3rd grades.  All of the camp sessions culminate in a performance, the sessions are what I call ¾ days (10-3:30, for example), which I think is the perfect amount of time for elementary ages kids.

12 June Avenue (mailing address only, camps take place at Ben Franklin Theater or Cranbury Park) Norwalk, CT 06850 203.493.0563

Curtain Call, Stamford, CT
For those who have very committed thespians, I suggest looking into Stamford’s Curtain Call, which has a theater program as well as a drama camp for ages 6-16.  Students work in age-appropriate groups under area professionals specialized in the performing arts. All programs take place at the Sterling Farms Theatre Complex with two stages, two studio classrooms and air-conditioning. Each two-week session culminates in a showcase performance for an invited audience.

New Canaan Performing Arts Conservatory, New Canaan, CT
Offering drama camps, voice lessons and piano lessons, the New Canaan Performing Arts Conservatory is a fantastic summer option.  The drama camps run for 1 week sessions starting at age 3 up to seniors in high school.

Summer camps are a great way to try new activities without the pressure of making a season long commitment.  After all, your youngster doesn’t know if she/he will enjoy it, and you don’t want to drag an unwilling participant to and from a class for an entire season.  To that end, we’ll be trying out Irish dancing and Zumba camps this summer:

Gray School of Irish Dance, Danbury, CT
The Gray School of Irish Dance will start its summer camp program in June and sessions will run through the end of July.  One and two week sessions are available, and the sessions run for approximately 3 hours.

Danbury War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive, Danbury, CT 06810 203.270.7001

Zumba with Zappy Zebra, Stamford, CT
Geared towards boys and girls ages 4-12, this zumba camp incorporates elements of merengue, salsa and hip hop into its program.  If this won’t tire out your kids, nothing will!

Greenwich Dance Studio Petite, Stamford, CT
Love, love this ballet studio for the wee ballerinas.  Greenwich Dance Studio Petite offers a variety of introductory classes for babies, preschoolers and parents. The studio targets our youngest dancers from ages 6 months - 4 years with both Mommy & Me and Drop-off dance classes for girls and boys. In "Wiggle Ones" little dancers  from 12-24 months use scarves, balls, bubbles and fun music to get their groove on. Think dance party, toddler style, in our "Boppin Tots" class.  Your two year old will bounce and bop with you during this upbeat dance class.  And in "Prima Ballerina", your little dancer will love learning basic ballet steps and terminology while you have 45 minutes to do what you like. See our website for all classes, current schedule and tuition.

2000 West Main Street, Stamford, CT 06903 203.990.0370

The Wilton Dance Studio is offering a morning Princess Dance Camp for children ages 3, 4, and 5, as well as an afternoon Dance camp 1 for children is grades K-3.  All sessions are 1 week long, and campers coming for the afternoon session must bring a snack.

Hopefully some time at drama camp will translate to less drama on the home front!
