CT Open House Day: Hartford County Participants

On Saturday June 9, Connecticut is opening its doors to the public for the 8th annual open house. Residents are invited to explore the state’s arts, history and tourism with this exciting event for the whole family. Many of the local spots participating in this open house are offering discounted or free admission, free gifts, special exhibits, and fun activities. While participating sites will be hosted throughout the entire state I have listed here the spots located in Hartford County. The only hard part will be trying to decide which location to visit!

Imagine Nation Museum in Bristol will be open from 11am-5pm and featuring a special bubble themed event for the day. They will also be giving away a complimentary ice cream cone in the old fashioned soda fountain.

Lake Compounce Theme Park also in Bristol is offering a discounted admission of only $10 plus tax from 4pm-8pm a big difference from their usual admission of $36.99 or late night rate of $18.99. Enjoy the rides, Water Park, and other fun for this amazing low price.

The Futtner Family Farm in East Hartford is having a free prize drawing of various garden items, every half-hour from 9am-6pm, but you must be present for the drawing. While you’re there you can pick-your-own produce or explore the farm.

Join the New England Carousel Museum and the Bushnell Park Carousel for fun carousel rides and crafts. Free rides to the first 100 people who attend. Kids can also create a Gift for Dad, a free coloring craft for children creating a decorated carousel horse for Dad on his special day.

The Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center in Wethersfield is open to visitors from 10-5pm and starting at noon they will be offering free outdoor activities such as live animal demonstrations, a petting zoo, music and more!

Visit the Watermark Press in Hartford from 11-5pm and learn about safe non-toxic print making. Materials will be provided for visitors to make their own original art print. Complimentary refreshments available and visitors will also receive a discount coupon for future classes.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center in Hartford will have free admission from 10-4pm. Join in the celebration of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s 201st birthday with house tours, horse and carriage rides, plein air painting, craft activities, dramatic readings and reenactments, and free birthday cake for all.

Rocky Hill Ferry is offering free rides from 10:30 am- 5 pm, aboard the Hollister III an open flatboat that is towed across the Connecticut River by the towboat Cumberland. This ferry is the nation’s oldest continuously operating ferry service.

Visit the Hartford Baseball Grounds at Colt Meadow from 11-2:30pm to watch an 1860’s era game. Bring a blanket and a picnic while enjoying the game. While there, get $1 off the price of a vintage soda pop.
