Things to do with kids: Mostly Free and Fun Things to do in CT with Kids This Weekend October 27-28: Fairs, Costume Parades and Super Heroes

As a kid, I remember pulling on my costume for the first time on Halloween each year.  Halloween was filled with dress up, candy and a huge carved jack-o-lantern on our front porch.  My kids have a very different experience with this holiday.  Usually by the time October 31st rolls around they've already worn their costumes half a dozen times at various events and parties.   Our front porch is adorned with an army of pumpkins and other decorations.  What was for me a one day event has for my children become a month-long extravaganza.

As we enter the last weekend before Halloween we have tons of opportunities for your kids to dress up, collect candy, make crafts and have fun.  And best of all - many of them are FREE!

Our posts on Halloween Happenings and Parades in Fairfield County and Haunted Houses in Hartford County are a good place to start when looking for something to do this weekend. And of course our CT Kids Halloween and Fall Fun Guide has so much info as well.

On Friday evening take a 45 minute walk along a path of 1,000 luminaries while listening to creepy historic tales at the free Washington Green Cemetery Tour.

Bridgeport hosts it's 3rd Annual Boo Bash, where kids can play games, make crafts and enjoy treats.  The lucky winner of the costume contest will win a gift certificate to Gumdrop Swap Children's and Maternity Boutique.

Do your kids like super heroes?  There will be multiple Marvel Comics Operation Green shows at the Maritime Center this weekend.  Be sure to purchase your tickets online because similar shows sold out last year.

Head to Danbury for Halloween on the Green.  Wear your costumes to this free event for magic, goodie bags and a costume parade.

Bring your pumpkins to be judged at the Halloween Festival at the Southington Drive-In.  Dress in costume and enjoy music, face painting, a haunted hayride and more.  Scary movies will be shown in the evening.

Enjoy nature this weekend at the Fall Bird Walk in Hammonasset State Park or the Woodpecker Walk at Greenwich Audubon.

Audubon Kids Day in Sharon is a fun-filled family event offering nature themed games and crafts, a petting zoo and a special performance following the costume parade.

At the Full Moon Family Hike at New Milford's Pratt Nature Center families can take a free hike and then warm up as they roast marshmallows over the campfire.  Or take your own family hike at one of the locations listed in our post on Hiking With the Family in Hartford County.

Visit the Hartford Hodge Podge Open Market on Sunday.  Now through November 19th you'll find vendors, artists, musicians and food at this open air market with no charge for admission.

Visit our event calendar for more activities.  Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Pinterest for updates, giveaways and more!

Have a wonderful weekend with your family!
