What We're Reading

For 0-10 year olds

This is one of our favorite
family story books of all time. It explains how mama has unconditional love for her dear one.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one. (grade 3 and up)

The LIttle Kid

Bad Kitty is hilarious as he works his way through an alphabet of naughtiness.

Mostly Free and Fun Things To Do In CT With Kids This Weekend March 23-24: Easter Egg Hunts, Parades, Touch-A-Truck & Fairs

Things to do with kids: Mostly Free and Fun Things To Do In CT With Kids This Weekend March 23-24: Easter Egg Hunts, Parades, Touch-A-Truck & Fairs

While I lived down south, spring meant pretty pastel sundresses and hiding eggs for the kids in fluffy, green grass. Connecticut welcomed the new season this week with a dose of the white stuff, so hopefully the snow can be cleared in time for the full slate of fun this weekend. Actually, some events may have been postponed so check with venues before venturing out.

Fairfield County Easter Egg Hunts

Things to do with kids: Fairfield County Easter Egg Hunts

Santa Claus I get. The toothy fairy, no problem. But an oversized pink bunny who lays eggs? This tradition makes no sense to me. However, with a little digging I've learned that the tradition of the Easter bunny has its roots in centuries old pagan traditions of celebrating spring and renewal. The bottom line? As long as he's bringing chocolate, this bunny is good with me. And with my kids. Happily, there are lots of opportunities in the area, so many so that we have listed even more events occurring in Fairfield County here.

Nature and Science Summer Camps in New London County

Things to do with kids: Nature and Science Summer Camps in New London County

My son, at 6 years old, declared his intention to attend MIT after high school, class of 2027.  He lives and breathes science, so most summer camps involving athletic activities don't appeal much to his interests.  Sound familiar?  If your little nature or science buffs need a fun camp experience this summer, New London county offers a wide range of camps just for them! And some even offer discounts and scholarships.

A Museum Day Trip to Lutz Children's Museum in Manchester, CT

Things to do with kids: A Museum Day Trip to Lutz Children's Museum in Manchester, CT

Although the weather is beginning to warm up and spring is just around the corner don’t forget about all of those “April showers” that come before “May flowers”!  The Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester is one of those cozy little places perfect for spending a few hours on a rainy afternoon. It’s a small one level museum geared towards the younger child ages 2-8. Within the play areas you can find things like a pretend post office with boxes to stuff into a mailbox, a 1940’s decorated school house, puzzles, blocks, dress up clothes, a large train with a bell to ring, a vegetable stand, a huge life size cow with udders to “milk” (that really squeezes out water into a bucket) and more. If you look up above, surrounding the ceiling, runs a track where a train is in a continuous circular movement around the museum.

Mostly Free and Fun Things To Do In CT With Kids This Weekend March 16-17: Pancakes, Princesses and St. Patrick's Day

Things to do with kids: Mostly Free and Fun Things To Do In CT With Kids This Weekend March 16-17: Pancakes, Princesses and St. Patrick's Day

I'm not Irish and I don't like beer or corned beef, so St. Patrick's Day has always been a non-event for me.  Just another day on the calendar.  However, with kids this holiday takes on a whole new meaning and offers so many new opportunities for fun.  This weekend I (along with the kiddos of course) am going to make my very first Leprechaun Trap.  Yes, that's right, a Leprechaun Trap.  A few short years ago I never knew such a thing existed.  Also on the agenda for Sunday are rainbow cupcakes and a Pinterest inspired craft.
